The Bluff

Reilly has always been so clever... I knew from the time he started talking that I had to get the bluff in on him EARLY. So, shortly after he turned 3, I told him something that my Mom told me- and I believed her. "Mommies have eyes in the back of their heads." Of course, he was awestruck and asked immediately for evidence. So, being quite clever myself, I reached for some eyeballs from his Mr. Potatohead collection. (Blue, of course... to match my other ones.) I stuck them in the hair on the back of my head while he wasn't watching, and then showed him. I told him that he can only see them when I want him to, because usually they are invisible. To this day, 2 years later, he still refers to the eyes in the back of my head. I can't really bring myself to feel bad about my deception, if it keeps him from doing even a FEW things he knows he shouldn't. I wonder how much longer I can get away with this....

Mother's Day

I am always so excited for Mother's Day... actually it's one of my favorite days of the year! (It's just that I'm so happy to be one!) And I love the sweet, thoughtful gestures that my guys always seem to come up with- they make me feel so loved and appreciated.
I'm so grateful to God that He has chosen ME to be Mommy for these 2 beautiful children. What an honor... I cherish every single moment.

Uncle Mike's Visit

Mikey came home from working in New York this past month, and wanted to surprise our parents. We all met at Texas Roadhouse for dinner... and Honey came into the restaurant without him as planned. Then, while we were deciding what to order, Mikey walked up to our table and asked, "So how is everything tonight?" Dad looked up at him and then looked away... it took him a minute. ;) Mom was awestruck, and of course she cried! It was such a great surprise! We had a great night!

70 Years

We attended the 70th Wedding Anniversary Celebration of Joey's Great-Aunt Ida & Great-Uncle Jeff this weekend. Amazing... 70 Years. Just how God intended it to be. One man, one woman. For life. I love watching them walk together... the quiet cadence that only a lifetime of loving each other could produce. What a blessing to be given so many years with the love of your life! HAT TRICK

At today's soccer game, Reilly got a HAT TRICK! (That is 3 GOALS for those who don't know!!!) It was so AWESOME! Which incidentally, let his team win 8-7. Of course, the score isn't kept by anyone but the competitive fathers in attendance. :) After the game, he insisted on calling everyone who may have missed it. He said that at the next game, he'll score 4 !!

Reilly is READING!!

Reilly and I have been having "school time" at home for quite a while now, and last week he started READING!!! He sounds out 3 and 4 letter words, like bug, mat, fish, camp, tent, etc! We're so proud of him in this great beginning, and hope that his love of books will continue!

Library

Reilly and I have been making trips to the library quite frequently, since he was around 2. We always take his rolling backpack, and fill it with books to last us two weeks or so. I thought this time, we should get him his very own library card! He was SO excited... he got to sign his name on the back and used it to check out his books- all by himself! He looked so proud! I wish I had taken my camera to snap some pictures of that, but here are a few from home!



Reilly has learned so much from the books we borrow. His favorites at the moment are about how bees make honey, (which he describes in detail at any mention of the word) and one about the body... inside and out. So he is now well versed in anatomy!
