The Golden Rule

Reilly and I were just chatting tonight, after he got into bed, after we read books, as per the usual. (He usually asks me questions, or we just discuss things in general.) Tonight he asked me what the word "revenge" means. (I usually try to explain new things to Reilly in a tactile way... illustrating new concepts using something he's experienced or seen before.) So, I told him it would be like... if some kid pushed you down on the playground, REVENGE would be: you pushing him down too. But, I did tell him that Jesus wouldn't want us to behave that way, that revenge was His job, not ours. He just said "Oh". After a second's pause he said, "Well, what if some boy punched me in the mouth? Wouldn't I need to punch HIM in the mouth, too? Because the GOLDEN RULE does say that we treat others the way that we want to be treated, so he would WANT me to punch him in the mouth after that."

Well, shut my mouth. I can't argue with that logic.

Memorial Day

We spent Memorial Day at Mimi & Grandpa's house, and they had a surprise for Reilly... His very own little pool with a slide! He was SO excited, and so was I... we had one just like it when I was little! So Fun! (And convenient, because it was hot!!)






Avery liked the cool water in the pool about as much as she likes getting shots... poor baby.





My Dad "the Grill-Master" made the best Bacon Cheeseburgers EVER!! And we had such a great day just hanging out!

Reading with Mimi

Mimi had a sleepover with us a few nights ago, while Joey was away for work. Of course, Reilly was thrilled- he and Avery just ADORE their Mimi. She read the kids their night-night books, and it just made me so HAPPY! My Mom used to read a lot to Melissa, Mikey and I. I sat down across from her while she was reading, and found myself engrossed in the stories, just like I was when I was a kid. Thanks Momma, for that sweet time. WE LOVE YOU!!!!

Grandpa's Little Cupie Doll

I just LOVE that my Dad called Avery his "little cupie doll" !!! She just seems to turn all men to mush. ;)

Similarities

Here are pictures of Reilly & Avery, at roughly the same age... wearing "footy" pajamas from their Mimi, and lounging on their respective Boppys... = Cuteness squared.

Avery is 6 Months Old !!!

Tipping the scales at 17 pounds, with a length of 26 3/4 inches... our sweet baby girl is 6 months old and thriving!! She can sit up quite well all by herself for about a minute or so, before she falls backward into our arms! She is very strong, and will actually "walk" if you hold her little arms. She is becoming increasingly vocal, and she actually reached out for me a little while ago! She is the happiest baby girl I've ever seen, so sweet and incredibly precious! She brings us such joy every single day!

Reilly's Last Game

Reilly had his last soccer game with the SNAKES, and scored a GOAL to end the season right! He got a HUGE trophy, and I don't think I've ever seen him more proud! (The ball on his trophy actually SPINS!!)



We took him out for ice cream afterwards to celebrate... he loves the lemon custard.



It was such fun watching Reilly play his first sport... and I'm so glad that I didn't miss a single minute of it! He thinks he might want to try T-Ball next, or maybe Karate. Um... we'll see.

Avery's First Baby Food

When Avery tried her first bite of carrots, her expression was a sight to behold.


She made the craziest (on the unpleasant side) face ever! Reilly was so awesome to take all of these pictures of her for me, so I could catch it on video at the same time!



Of course, she had to choose the worst possible moment to rub her face, and got carrots absolutely everywhere. Well, on second thought... maybe it was the best possible moment- because I seriously enjoy these messy-face pictures. ;)

The Bluff

Reilly has always been so clever... I knew from the time he started talking that I had to get the bluff in on him EARLY. So, shortly after he turned 3, I told him something that my Mom told me- and I believed her. "Mommies have eyes in the back of their heads." Of course, he was awestruck and asked immediately for evidence. So, being quite clever myself, I reached for some eyeballs from his Mr. Potatohead collection. (Blue, of course... to match my other ones.) I stuck them in the hair on the back of my head while he wasn't watching, and then showed him. I told him that he can only see them when I want him to, because usually they are invisible. To this day, 2 years later, he still refers to the eyes in the back of my head. I can't really bring myself to feel bad about my deception, if it keeps him from doing even a FEW things he knows he shouldn't. I wonder how much longer I can get away with this....

Mother's Day

I am always so excited for Mother's Day... actually it's one of my favorite days of the year! (It's just that I'm so happy to be one!) And I love the sweet, thoughtful gestures that my guys always seem to come up with- they make me feel so loved and appreciated.
I'm so grateful to God that He has chosen ME to be Mommy for these 2 beautiful children. What an honor... I cherish every single moment.
